THE FUTURE OF WEB DESIGN: WEB DESIGN TRENDS 2023
09Apr
Web Design Trends have taken over the technology sector by a wave. Today, web design has taken a completely new turn and is the much needed foundation of every website. It has become the focal point of attracting potential clients and consumers. Design trends have taken over a completely new level and proof of this are the previous and recent design trends. Design Trends in the current scenario are equivalent to modern art; they are a part of the new cultural wave. What matters is understanding the newly emerging trends and incorporating them.
In this article I will be talking about the web design trends which have taken over websites in the year 2023:
LAYOUT TRENDS
Website Layouts have become drastically futuristic and breaking traditional norms and barriers. Currently, designers are becoming more experimental and creative with web layouts and trying to expand the horizons in every way possible. Gone are the old days of websites being extremely technical and plain, not simplistic but plain; the time when websites were direct with plain word texts and extremely to the point and what I call “computerised”. Today, layouts are breaking barriers and becoming like mini movies and art creations themselves. Asymmetrical and Grid layouts have become a fad this year, designers are going to love playing with grids in very different ways as compared to earlier layouts wherein grids were used in a very basic manner that maintains alignment of the website. Many websites are opting for a “Planned disturbance” grid look consisting of asymmetrical grids and at the same time being minimalistic with this layout. Grid breaking grid or using CSS grid or broken grids for a “traditional effect” and giving a different feel and look to the website will also be seen. The Retro layout is another catching trend of the past which is going to create waves this year. The retro layout gives a website a minimalistic and old school and also a much cleaner feel. Overlapping images show an array of options available on websites and also the different facilities and forums.
COLOUR TRENDS
This year colour trends can be divided into two pallets: Loud and bold palettes and Traditional Black and white palettes. Every web designer working on a website faces one common problem: the problem of their website getting lost in the crowd and becoming invisible. Hence, in order to break this monochromatic and regularity, web designers have to choose between visually appealing and visually setting apart colour palettes for their websites. Loud and Bold colours like orange, neon, yellow are gaining high prominence in web layouts as they have to ability to shock the users and also make the website stand out, further, a colourful website gives more fun and vibrant appeal. A web design trend that is loved is the concept of colour branding. Brands are using particular colours and associating them with their websites. By using this concept of colour branding, companies are incorporating colours which are best suitable for their brands, this makes the users associate colours with particular products. Further, the use of multiple colours is also being incorporated and colour changes take place as the user navigates through different products and pages giving the website a colourful look. Many websites use black and white colours as their main colours. Psychologically speaking, black and white colours for a website can be very successful. Why is that? Every colour has some sort of emotion and feeling associated with it. Black, for example, is a colour associated with power, authority, and strength and white is a colour associated with purity, positivity and safety and peacefulness. So when these two contrasting colours are used together in a website the impact is huge. You get a combination of strength and solidarity, power and stability. This speaks volume about a website and the services it has to offer, people automatically associate these characteristics or feelings with the website. Further, shapes, fonts and images look more detailed and crisp if a website is painted with black and white, one gets an old world charm.
DIVERSITY TREND
Diversity is being given a lot of importance and attention in the past few years. Today, even websites are trying to be diverse and incorporate this trend in order to humanise their website and gain attention from diverse groups globally. Websites do not stick to a particular racial or sex group; they try and cater to almost every human being as possible, literally. Inclusive Web Design is the new type of web design which gives importance to diversity. Web designers are thinking about the needs of diverse users and trying to be accessible to all the users in the world. Being humane will not only make the users feel special and secure but will also make the website stand out and be socially aware, progressive and responsible.
3D ILLUSTRATIONS
The main aim of every web designer is to make graphics as real and alive as possible; to give the users touch and feel the experience and make them feel as if they are actually a part of the website and not virtually. 3D illustrations are being used by most of the web designer and have become extremely trendy for this year. These illustrations increase user interactivity with the websites and their services offered and also increase connectivity between users and the website. For example, a London-based website which provides beautiful and spacious bell tents that make camping experience more comfortable and polished makes the use of 3D illustrations with the help of which users can make better choices of tents and also have a clear sense of what they are buying because of 3D illustrations. Designers are also using abstract and disorganised illustrations in order to stand out and be unique.
CONTENT
Words are just like colours and evoke emotions and feelings within the users. A great narrative can do wonders for a website. Content is the way by which you communicate to your users, the way by which the users come to know about your website and products. In 2023, Words are going to gain more prominence over colours, layouts, fonts. Content and writing is the way by which a user will fall in love with your website. A website with a good story and a strong narrative will attract more users than websites with great colours or fonts or style. Authentic and original content will definitely make a website stand out. Build something worthwhile and extraordinary.
FONTS AND GRAPHICS
Gigantic and eye-grabbing screen dominating fonts are going to be in vogue this year. Words are going to be in such big and huge fonts that the user will have to wait and read them even if they are not interested in. This will add value to a website as it will definitely attract users. Further, playful graphics and animation are also going to take centre stage this year. Manipulating cursor designs in order to make the website unique and playful. For example cursors of different sizes like dot or triangle etc. will add an element of fun interaction between user and websites. Further, the website logos will be more gradient oriented and sophisticated and much sharper.
VIDEO
Videos on websites are going to create a buzz this year. Well documented and crafted videos explaining the products and even teaching the users the way of using the products is going to be trending this year. This will be very beneficial with respect to sales as the users will have a clear understanding of the product and also now the use of the products which usually cannot be clearly explained in product photography. However, designers have to make the videos short and crisp and interesting to view, direct and to the point videos can be dull at times and also monotonous. Designers will have to ensure that the curated videos are direct yet interesting and well explained. A good tip would be the use of time-lapse in videos.
